Present: Ron Wilson, Jim Topitzhofer, Peter Dysart, Jackie Mihalik, Willie Falwell, Travis Gorshe
Low attendance was discussed
Wood Lake art class update - Jul 30-Aug 1
• Most discussion tabled until April meeting
• Contact information for other art teachers in Richfield schools were requested to help recruit students
Community Center art display —
• March-April - Beth Lewis, photography
• May-June will be Dennis Staley's watercolors and drawings
Publicity report -
• The new newsletter looks great
• Jackie will work to get it on the website
Shakespeare in the Park -
• Reviewed written proposal from Michelle
• Need clarification of dates
• More discussion also needed concerning locations and logitics, length of performance, size of cast, etc.
Art Center at Veteran's Park -
• Detailed planning has begun, but no building permit as of yet
• Design includes tongue-in-groove pine paneling, a door with a window, an additional interior window (for safety and visibility)
• Air conditioning concerns were discussed
• Center is already booked for a youth art workshop and another event
• We need to take advantage of opportunities for new offerings (coordinated through the rec. dept.)
• Discussed how the farmer's market should help with exposure, creating a win-win situation for both
Wood Lake Paint-Out - June 9
• Ron will be out of town
• More volunteers will be needed
June Arts Commission meeting -
• Picnic in lieu of regular meeting
Christmas lights -
• At the Richfield comprehensive plan meeting it was suggested that the Arts Commision promote more Christmas lights in business areas
• 66th Street was discussed as the most visible corridor
• Arts Commission can encourage and promote, but private property owners make the decision
• Arts Commission can also suggest style/layout ideas to promote a uniform look from businesses
K-Mart/Norm Holen sculpture -
• Ideas discussed for making it more visible
• Trimming trees, adding lights
• First steps are to contact the artist and to find out who is the property owner to get them involved
Cedar Point -
• Will art be incorporated into the Cedar Point development and roundabouts?
• How can art be incorporated into the Cedar Point development and roundabouts?
Honoring All Veterans -
• Travis updated the group on progress for the memorial
• All Richfield commissions may be asked to provide at basket for the Memorial Day Silent Auction - formal request will come in writing
