The group reviewed Ron’s annual report to the City Council.
Through a written statement, Kevin reported that the Teen Art Contest was a success. Prizes were donated by Dick Blick Art Supplies.
We need ideas for the artists for the Community Center art display. Upper-level high school students from Richfield and Holy Angels may be an option.
Jim gave an update on the Veteran’s Memorial progress. Significant progress had been made in funding. Some labor and materials have been donated. Plans are underway for the unveiling
ceremony.
Jim addressed questions about the role of the Arts Commission (RAC). He explained how other commissions operate in comparison. It was suggested that the RAC could/should advise the
Recreation Department on what should go on in the art center (events/classes). RAC can/should do “other” things as well as promote the arts. The city can offer expertise and support
to plan and promote events. Questions about a RAC budget were also discussed (Do we have one? Can we have one? What would we do with one?). RAC could/should develop a relationship
with the recreation department and community ed. to recommend class offerings.
If RAC is going to have some kind of art event in the summer of ’08, we need to get going!
