Bus Shelter Art Program_________ Christine Costello
As part of the new shopping area and the roundabout intersection that will serve it, Richfield will be getting two new bus shelters. Christine would like to work with RAC to start a
program where local groups can create decorative panels to be included in these bus shelters, and eventually in others that may be built or renovated later. She brought pictures and
descriptions of a similar program in King County, WA.
• Art will be done on wooden panels that will be seal coated by the city and inserted into the metal frame of the bus shelter so actual painting can take place off-site.
• Possibly school kids or organizations can be artists.
• The city is investigating providing "kits" to artists containing acrylic paints. Cost would need to be reasonable.
• It will take time to put the program together. Christine will keep in touch. Decision:
• RAC role will be to process applications by artists and select winners.
Veterans Memorial Groundbreaking Travis Gorshe
Event took place on Memorial Day. 1300 were fed, $12,000 was raised, 130 name engravings sold thusfar. Cost has been reduced to $400per name. Rock for the base of the sculpture donated
by United Taconite and is a large chunk of taconite ore.______
Wood Lake Paint Out Willie Falwell
Very light attendance in spite of posters and signage. 5 or 6 artists attended.
Shakespeare in City Park_________ Michelle Schwantes
Performances will be 7/28, 8/4 & 8/11 at 1 pm in Veterans Park on the hillside near the picnic shelter. The program will be selections from Shakespeare.____________
RAC Minutes 1
Art Center
Ron Wilson
Abrakadoodle using the space occasionally during summer. The city is pessimistic about participation in classes by immigrant youth (Immigrants do not trust their kids to go anywhere
but school or church.)
• Ron and Ellen expect to offer day classes for seniors there.
• There will probably be a way groups of artists can rent the space for open studio time.
• Opening will be October 13 and will feature a sale of artwork.
Wood Lake Art Camp
Ron Wilson
Art camp cancelled due to lack of registration. Next year use Art Center space and do our own publicity.__________________________________________
