Old Business
Events Paint Out – June 10
RAC annual Pot Luck Picnic – June 29 – 6pm - Augsburg Park/Community Center patio. Bring a dish to share. Stay for the Music in the Park concert at 7:00. The group’s name is Sticks
and Stones. (/Bring something to sit on, insect repellent, etc.)
Richfield Beautiful Garden and Home Tour – June 24
4th of July Parade
Mural Committee - Ron Wilson Contract signed with Gary Wiberg of Bon’s Auto Body for $2,017. This will cover preparation of the design and painting on the primed surface (403.5 square
feet). This is the back half of the wall. Bon’s will do their own preparation of the wall and priming. Painting will begin in July.
Publicity committee to request an article in Sun Current to solicit volunteers from the community.
Willie will meet with Gary Wiberg to start the design concept. He will also call Denyse Pahl-Jones to request her help with the painting as an unpaid volunteer.
Willie can purchase materials at Home Depot using the city charge account.
The schools will allow Willie to use scaffolding for the duration of the project.
Richfield/Bloomington Credit Union would like an indoor mural.
Publicity Committee An article about the Paint Out appeared in the Sun Current this week. It required a number of phone calls to achieve this.
Wood Lake Paint Out - Ron Wilson Publicity – Announcement on electronic sign at athletic field. Banner is posted on municipal swimming pool fence. Posters at Wood Lake Nature Center.
Susan Rublein will contact Grammercy’s Friday Friends group about the Paint Out, but will be going out of town.
Mary and Kimberley have ordered t-shirts for RAC members. Price is $14 ($16 for XXL) to be paid to Mary by RAC members. Shirts will be available for pick up at the Paint Out.
Wood Lake to provide bowls and spoons. RAC to purchase napkins.
Ice cream, toppings to be donated by Rainbow Foods.
Mary will purchase napkins.
City will get 15% commission on art work sales. Ron distributed a form for reporting sales.
Veterans’ Memorial - Jim Topitzhofer, Travis Gorshe Committee selected a site for the memorial north of the American Legion parking lot. This proposed site still needs to be approved
by City Council, the VFW and there is a group called Friends of Veterans Park who are also stakeholders. City Council will likely have a study session. Travis will meet with the Friends
of Veterans Park. Susan Rosenberg will facilitate that meeting.
The committee is starting on a design concept and size for the monument. Travis will bring a sketch to the RAC picnic.
Travis will contact the Dakota Nation to request an design from them for paver bricks. This will be a tribute to them as the first inhabitants of the area and veterans.
Travis will ask the Veterans’ Administration to provide a mailing list to contact veterans and their families who may wish to purchase names on the memorial.
Travis will contact the US Marines to see if there is a way they can transport a piece of rock from Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima for use in the memorial construction. It may be necessary
for the Memorial to pay freight from Okinawa unless the Marines can be convinced to haul it here as a favor.
Twins game tickets for a game on Sunday, July 30 at 1:10 pm will be sold as a fundraiser for seed money. Tickets will be sold for $16 through the VFW. $7 from each ticket will go to
the Veterans Memorial.
Arts Center Funding Strategy - Jim Topitzhofer, Ron Wilson Susan will be out of town for much of June, but will work on the MRAC proposal while she is away.
She intends to eventually invite MRAC staff to inspect site.
Community Center Art Display Willie is artist for July-August.
Community Theater fund raiser – Michelle Schwantes Auditions will be in August, performances in October
Michelle still working on a location for the performance. If she can get a school auditorium, there will be a cost for a technician and a custodian during the performance.
New Business
Richfield Beautiful Home & Garden Tour Volunteers will be needed. Susan Rosenberg will contact RAC members.
Dave Dunham is this year’s artist.
