The following statement describes the requested mitigation for the net taking of 10,500 square feet of
parkland due to the proposed improvements to the Crosstown Commons.
The Commission is in favor of receiving remnant parcels on the northwest and northeast corners of
Madison Park. However, we are hesitant to proceed with trail connections into the park from Logan
Avenue and James Avenue. The City may install these trail connections in the future, but for now it
is best to omit them from the current plan.
The Commission requests a new trail constructed near the south perimeter of the park so that it
completes a loop trail. Other items requested include construction of four new swings to be added to
the existing play equipment, and additional landscaping throughout the park. The Commission would
also like to explore the feasibility of installing some sort of a sustainable energy source for the
existing park shelter such as solar.
Recommended Action
Motion to approve the following list of items as mitigation for the net taking of 10,500 square
feet of parkland at Madison Park due to the proposed improvements to the Crosstown
Commons: construction of a trail connecting the existing trails on the south perimeter of the
park, adding four new swings to the existing play structure, additional landscaping throughout
the park, and a sustainable energy source for the existing park shelter.
