Discussion Items
Neighborhood Park Youth Sports Program Fee Waiver & Intensive Family Outreach
Dr. Simone French, U of MN Professor, talked about a public-health initiative to partner with local parks and recreation agencies to provide
low- and no-cost recreational opportunities for youth to overcome financial, language, and cultural barriers. She said that the program is
recruiting families with kids ages six to 12 to collect information about their participation in the program. She invited the CSC to provide
feedback related to how existing programs are conducted and if the program would be a good fit with Richfield’s existing recreation programs.
Amy suggested possibly including Wood Lake Nature Center’s programming.

The Friends of Wood Lake has been raising money and awareness for Wood Lake Nature Center since 1990. Wood
Lake is regarded by the community as a gem in the middle of the city, but financial challenges are inevitable as staff
continues to find resources for building and trail maintenance, facility improvements, programming, and all of the things
that are essential to continue operating for generations to come. We appreciate your interest in getting involved with the
Friends of Wood Lake!

I'm interested in using my public relations and marketing expereince to contribute to a good cause.
Nature areas are vitaul to our Twin Cities metro area. I've found great value in the ability to "get into
nature" without needing to leave the Twin Cities.
