Discussion Items
Winter Food Drive
MacDonald said that the goal will be 5,000 pounds; the food drive is listed in the fall recreation brochure. She said that VEAP will weigh the
food as we go to keep people informed about the progress. She said that she hopes the liquor stores, more businesses, and some apartment
buildings will be drop-off locations. Other sites were suggested: Ice Arena, the gyms, Lakewinds Co-Op, City Hall, Community Center,
Augsburg Library, Wood Lake Nature Center, churches, Richfield History Center.
Place-Making Project with MN-DOT
Markle talked about MnDOT’s redevelopment of 494 from Cedar to Eden Prairie and they want to assemble a committee of residents and staff
to offer input about the aesthetics of the projects, like the colors, materials, decorative features. She said that a joint CSC/Planning
Commission meeting is being planned for November, where they would explain the project. Markle said that Bruzek has volunteered to be part
of this committee. Markle said that she would keep the CSC members posted about the joint meeting in November.
Wood Lake Nature Center Building Project
Markle said that a bonding bill tour, including Governor Walz, will be held on Thursday, October 21, 4:00 pm.
Commission Member Recruitment
Markle said that the Council will recruit for new members in November, so it will be important for people to put out the word about serving on a
board or commission.

The purpose of the Visual Quality Advisory Committee (VQAC) is to consider
visual impacts and make recommendations to help manage visual quality
elements for the entire I-494 Corridor Reconstruction Project. The VQAC will
consider what environmental, scenic, historic and/or cultural elements from
the community to reflect in the project. The VQAC will define the corridor-
wide themes from the Airport to TH 169. Site-specific recommendations for
aesthetic elements will be created for the first phase project. Open for
consideration are bridge, retaining wall and noise wall surface treatments,
pedestrian railings, colors and finishes, landscaping, signage, and non-
roadway I-494 lighting. The decisions will be reflected in the Supplement to
the Visual Quality Manual. The committee will also provide guidance on how
the project integrates with the community in the Context Sensitive Solutions
Framework and public art plan.

The Friends of Wood Lake has been raising money and awareness for Wood Lake Nature Center since 1990. Wood
Lake is regarded by the community as a gem in the middle of the city, but financial challenges are inevitable as staff
continues to find resources for building and trail maintenance, facility improvements, programming, and all of the things
that are essential to continue operating for generations to come. We appreciate your interest in getting involved with the
Friends of Wood Lake!

Site & Building Design
I am a neighbor of Wood Lake Nature Center and have been thrilled to participate with my family in many of the great
programs offered. At the recent Wood Lake birthday celebration I was engaged by the boards showing the new Visitor
Center concept. With 15 years in designing and delivering a wide variety of structures, I believe I can offer insight to the
board into the building design, planning and construction process and help usher the new building into being.
