Discussion Items
Recreation Services
Recreation Services Director Markle reported on the following:
• COVID -19 Impacts: Richfield’s numbers are near the top for the state. Staff has pulled back from in-person programming and will continue
with virtual and self-guided programming. The governor is expected to pause athletics with an announcement on Wednesday, which will
affect the Ice Arena. Warming houses are not likely to open this winter. Outdoor rinks will still be flooded.
• Active Youth Grant from Hennepin County and Three Rivers Park District for over $100,000, is being spent down. It has been used for
various program supplies, equipment, free programming and facility admission, etc.
• Winter programming: primarily self-guided and virtual programming, as well as snowshoe and ski rentals at Wood Lake. Warming houses
will not be open.
• HVAC, refrigeration, and ADA work at the Arena will be finished in December.
• MacDonald asked if the CSC could host some kind of a food or toy drive. She suggested maybe partnering with VEAP. Felgate suggested
partnering with the Marines’ Toys for Tots efforts. Rudolph asked if the tree sales will happen at Vets. Markle said that it will, so that could be
a location. The group talked about doing a food drive by listing people’s homes who would volunteer to be drop-off sites.
• Expiring terms: Flake, Miller, Felgate, and Smieja’s remaining term
