Staff Reports
Recreation Services:
Recreation Services Director Markle reported on the following:
•Programs have continued to pivot due to COVID regulations. Offering a lot of self-guided in-person programming.
•The City is accepting applications for the Recreation Supervisor-Athletics position and seasonal positions at the pool.
•AARP Tax Aide has been taking appointments since late February.
•The Inclusive Playground at Augsburg Park is fully funded and construction will begin this spring. The old equipment was installed in 1994
and 1995; a pollinator garden will be planted where the smaller south lot currently is.
•Staff had a first meeting with an architect to begin drafting concept plans for a new building at Wood Lake Nature Center.
Discussion Items
Urban Wildland Races
Rodgers talked about the 19th-annual Urban Wildland races, which will include in-person races for the half marathon and 5K, as well as several
distances of virtual races.
Wood Lake Nature Center 50th Birthday
Smithson talked about Wood Lake turning 50 this year and staff has other events planned to celebrate the occasion.
Summer Programs
Markle reported that staff is planning many events that can be held with fairly normal conditions (Farmers Market, outdoor fitness classes,
Wood Lake camps). She said that it is too soon to make decisions about other larger events, like the 4th of July and PennFest.
Playground Process
Markle said that the process will begin to replace playground equipment at Christian and Fremont Parks, which will involve inviting residents to
meet at the park to talk about options, putting together an RFP, and selecting a vendor.
Committee Reports
FOWL: Bruzek, Planning: Nwaudo, Arts: Markle, Friendship: Sacco, Sustainability: Hanson, HAVM: Markle reported and asked if anybody
wanted to volunteer to be the CSC liaison to HAVM. Nelson volunteered.
Next Meeting/Adjournment
Regular April Meeting: Tuesday, April 20, 7:00 pm, WebEx or Municipal Center
Adjournment: Meeting adjourned by consensus at 8:14 pm

The Friends of Wood Lake has been raising money and awareness for Wood Lake Nature Center since 1990. Wood
Lake is regarded by the community as a gem in the middle of the city, but financial challenges are inevitable as staff
continues to find resources for building and trail maintenance, facility improvements, programming, and all of the things
that are essential to continue operating for generations to come. We appreciate your interest in getting involved with the
Friends of Wood Lake!
