The 5/17 agenda and 4/19 regular meeting minutes were approved by consensus. Staff Reports Recreation Services Updates Recreation Services Director Markle reported on the following: • City-Wide Garage Sale: May 19-21 • Vehicle Day: May 22 at Southdale Center • Memorial Day Events: Flags for Fort Snelling Motorcycle Ride, Saturday, May 20, Ice Arena. Memorial Day Ceremony at Honoring All Veterans Memorial on May 30, 2:00 pm. • Farmers Market: outdoor market opened May 14. • Augsburg Skate Park: Planning underway to expand it and add entry-level features. • Outdoor Pool is being filled this week. • MN Magicians have moved out of Richfield. Proposals from four groups have been submitted, which will be shared with the CSC in June. • Park cleanup groups around Earth Day: great turnout • Donaldson Park: Tree Trust event • Wood Lake: news expected within a week regarding the bonding bill grant for a new building Discussion Items Bike Park Update Markle updated the group, talking about a tour of a bike facility in Woodbury and interest from Three Rivers Park District about collaborating on the project. CIP Budget Markle presented an inventory of park facilities that she assembled with input from managers from Recreation and Public Works, listing infrastructure items that need attention at the various parks. Wendt asked if the Council will consider making the park project funding a proportion of the profits rather than a set amount. Markle said that it’s an issue she has raised before and will continue to raise. Action Items Monroe and Sheridan Playground Project Quote Markle showed the group the proposal submitted by Northland Recreation to replace the play equipment at Monroe and Sheridan Parks. The group unanimously recommended Council approval of the quote submitted by Northland Recreation for replacement of the play equipment. Veterans Park Boardwalk Markle reviewed the history of the boardwalk and explained how it has leaked Styrofoam material from the floats, is not accessible to people who use wheels or ADA-compliant, and is very unsafe and narrow. She recommended removing the existing boardwalk and presented options: replace the boardwalk, build a bird-viewing dock area, or make the existing one ADA-accessible. Wendt asked if anybody in the group was opposed to removing the existing boardwalk; the group agreed by consensus that the current one should be removed for safety reasons and the condition of the floats. Wendt said that the group could further discuss what would replace it when the capital improvement plan is reviewed.
