STAFF REPORTS Recreation Services Jeremy Johnson reported on park building rentals restarting after eight years, saying that staff took inventory and determined condition and opened up rentals for three of the enclosed buildings. $62/four hours. He summarized the rentals we’ve received so far this year and anticipates a lot of great usage this year. It fills a need for weekend usage of a building for events like small birthday parties. He talked about the Bluetooth-enabled locks that will enable people to unlock the building through remote permission from staff. He said Public Works can add the building to their routes for cleanup. He said that it was built in 1994, but is in very good shape. Whalen mentioned food preparation space. Tompkins mentioned using them for coworking space. Huemiller said that the buildings are used for the playground program and could be utilized for programming by Wood Lake during the construction of the new building. Huemiller provided the staff update: • Filling pool, first teams will swim May 28 • Splash pad supplies are being delivered, construction will begin. • RFP for Arena prime-time ice time rental will be sent out. Neighboring communities’ ice sheets will be down this year, so we are looking to enter into a five-year agreement. • Farmers Market has started for the season. 70 vendors. • Wood Lake: four responses received for Construction Manager at Risk. RFPs have been sent out for a company to construct the nature displays. • Wetland delineation at Wood Lake done; showed that we have more room to build than we had anticipated. • Wood Lake open house for the building project: about 100 people attended. Talked with Fraser for input from them about students with disabilities. Meeting with MIRA for input this week. • Site concept and design meetings have begun. • Interviews completed for naturalist position being vacated by Scott Ramsay, who is retiring. • New Recreation Program Manager, Jill Murphy, started this week. • Field rentals have a lot of interest and recreation program registration is strong. • Augsburg Skate Park expansion opening was going to be June 8, but will be rescheduled to August. • Run Richfield, one-mile fun run at Augsburg Park. • Bike Park season kickoff was well-attended. • Local Sales Tax: staff training and booths at events • Bonnie Muellerleile, the Farmers Market Coordinator, is now our full-time Recreation Coordinator. • Pie Cycle podcast interviewed Karl about the bike park.
