Sust Commission Minutes May 2023RICHFIELD COMMUNITY SERVICES ADVISORY COMMISSION DRAFT MINUTES UNTIL APPROVED BY THE SC REGULAR SUSTAINABILITY COMMISSION MEETING Thursday, May 25th, 2023 Heredia Room, City Hall PRESENT COMMISSIONERS: Amanda Kueper, Craig Heinen, Santwana Dasgupta, Logan Thein STAFF: Rachel Lindholm LIAISONS: Ben Whalen (City Council) ABSENT Bryan Beltran, Adam Burnside, Matt Dobratz, David Vrieze Daniels (CSC) </w:t></w Call to Order Kueper called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm. Approval of Minutes/Agenda Heinen motioned, Thein seconded, approved by all. Public Comment None Staff Reports Lindholm reported on the following: Community garden plots are being planted by gardeners, about half have started. There are a few extra plots that some folks have reached out about. There is a pollinator area planting event Saturday May 27th at 9 am, with residents and staff collaborating. Lindholm gave a recap presentation of the Council work session from Tuesday – CAP prioritization. Commissioners asked questions and provided comments. Topics discussed included: grantwriting, the role/value of tree planting, heating and transportation as the sectors with the biggest emissions and reduction potential, community education, federal and state incentives/funding, and more. Discussion Items Digital Sustainability Guide The subgroup will work on having a mock-up ready by the June meeting for commissioners to follow as they create the text for their sections. Workplan Commissioners and staff discussed assigning one of the workplan topics to each meeting to provide structure, a deadline, and an opportunity for the commission to discuss potential action steps after hearing from the commissioner lead(s) on each topic. Lindholm and Kueper will work to assign those for the rest of the meetings. Action Items None Committee Reports For the CSC, Lindholm and Whalen reported on behalf of Vrieze Daniels: The WLNC building project received $12 million in state funding through the legislature. Local Option Sales Tax also passed and will be brought to the voters at a future date. One of the Donaldson Park buildings will need to be demolished after having structural issues. Staff is undertaking an asset inventory to look at park buildings citywide and plan for their future and community needs.
