Sust Commission Minutes June 2023 REGULAR SUSTAINABILITY COMMISSION MEETING Thursday, June 22nd, 2023 Heredia Room, City Hall PRESENT COMMISSIONERS: Amanda Kueper, Logan Thein, Adam Burnside, Craig Heinen, Matt Dobratz STAFF: Rachel Lindholm (Sustainability Specialist) LIAISONS: Ben Whalen (City Council) ABSENT Santwana Dasgupta, David Vrieze Daniels (CSC), Bryan Beltran Call to Order Kueper called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. Approval of Minutes/Agenda Heinen motioned, seconded by Thein, approved by all. Public Comment None Staff Reports Sustainability Specialist Lindholm reported: Community Garden is going great. Impressive plots and raised beds. Good gardener reaction, good community interactions. Pollinator planting event went well, watering regularly to get established. Climate Action Plan strategic plan amendment is online, can see updates. Fleet efficiency, municipal building energy efficiency projects, and communication campaign are the prioritized actions. Whalen stated Council got update on actions that are being taken such as lighting upgrades in city hall and the parking lot. Discussion Items Digital Sustainability Guide Commissioners reviewed the drafted table of contents. Kueper shared that using the same format as Climate Action Plan categories didn’t line up seamlessly, but areas of the CAP are incorporated in the DSG. Discussion on various topics looking for clarifications, additions, updates. Discussion of how to get DSG promoted, get residents to use and engage with DSG. Reviewed layout that Heinen has been working on. Commissioners selected areas each would focus on and create the content for the guide. The goal is to have some preliminary content drafted for July’s Sustainability Commission meeting. 2023 Workplan Commissioners looked at workplan topics scheduled for each month. Kueper will bring EAB project ideas to the July meeting including a letter to editor. The goal of each month’s topic is to bounce ideas around, brainstorm, and start the conversation. Action Items None Committee Reports Community Services Commission: Whalen gave an update on the Splash Pad design process, which will go south of current kid pool location at Veteran’s Park pool. June 2024 is the proposed opening. He also mentioned the CSC was updated on the new WLNC building project and Local Sales Tax.
