The meeting was called to order by Mayor Quam at 5:38 P.M.
Item #1 SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING RE AIRPORT ADEQUACY-STUDY

Gertrude Ulrich,. Richfield Metropolitan Council
representative, presented a brief history of the background and
discussion leading up to the airport adequacy study.
Ms. Ulrich then presented the key components of the
Metropolitan Council Task Force study regarding the adequacy of
the Minneapolis - St. Paul Airport. She pointed out the major
concerns with the new proposed north - south runway which would
be parallel to Cedar Avenue. This proposal would require taking
roughly 450 Richfield homes, as well as the golf course.
Don Priebe, 7225 Bloomington Avenue, described the LDN - 65
Counter on an airport noise map and how the new north - south
runway would affect the sound contours of each Richfield
resident.
There was Council consensus that land banking for a needed
new airport would be supported. All Council Members also
expressed opposition to intensive expansion of the present
airport with respect to the proposed north - south runway.
Council Members received the report and requested the
Metropolitan Council to reject the recommendation of the Task
Force.
