CITY COUNCIL STUDY SESSION MEETING

Jeff Ryan, Business Records Systems; and
Marge Christianson, Hennepin County Election
Division.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Hamilton at 5:33 p.m.
Item ~1 VOTING BQUIPMBNT DBMONSTRATION. C.L. 440
Marge Christianson, Hennepin County Elections Division,
reviewed the process by which various voting systems and their
associated costs had been evaluated by the Hennepin County Voting
Equipment Task Force. She stated that the Task Force recommended
utilization of the Optech III-P optical scan voting equipment.
She reviewed the cost/benefit analysis of the proposed voting
equipment showing potential savings to both the county and
municipalities.
Jeff Ryan, Business Records Systems, and Otto Johannes,
Government Business Systems, demonstrated the operation and
technical aspects of the Optech III-P optical scan voting
equipment. Council Members were given sample ballots to mark and
use on the voting equipment.
Discussion followed regarding the potential savings that
this equipment would provide to the City of Richfield.
City Manager Prosser stated that Richfield would seek to
purchase the optical scan voting equipment in time to use in the
1987 elections.
