03-30-1981JOINT MEETING RICHFIELD SCHOOL BOARD/RICHFIELD CITY COUNCIL March 30';`"1981 The Richfield School Board of Education and the Richfield City Council met in a special joint meeting on Monday, March 30, 1981 at 7:30 p.m. Present: Councilmembers Bunce, Collins, Hassenstab, Ludeman, Mayor Priebe School Board Members Carlson, Hamilton, Lindgren, Myrvold, Westlund, Stern The meeting commenced at 7:40 p.m. '~ 1. Establishment of C~:ty-School Committee, to Explore Future Alternative Uses of School Facilities. Discussion was held regarding the school's plan for future closings and uses. Supt. Larson distributed copies of a long Rnage Facilities Planning Commission report and summarized the options presented in that report. Councilmember Hassenstab suggested, and the rest of elected officials concurred, that the mayor, school board chairman, city manager and the school superintendent appoint this committee. 2. Board Member Lindgren described the school district's Citizen Awareness of Richfield Education (CARE) efforts. He described a plan to form a committee which would seek to generate information and interest, especially in those homes that do not have children in the schools. He stated that the primary responsibility of the committee would be to get those people involved. No formal action was taken. 3. Discussion of School District Play Equipment in City Park Areas. It was agreed that the two staffs would continue recent efforts to coordinate placement of equipment in areas used jointly by the schools and for city recreational programming. 4. Review of School-City Cooperation. Tt was agreed that the committee discussed in Item ~~l was significant to continued cooperation; that joint meetings such as this one can continue to enhance past cooperation. Joint School Board/City Council Meeting -2- _ March 30, 1981 5. The school board expressed concern of possible discipline problems with students using city facilities. The city manager stated that there were no ongoing, nonresolva issues, and that the district staff had always been very cooperative in addressing any significant disciplinary problems that arise. 6. Project Charlie. The council and school board each described their support and involvement in Project Charlie and Project Charlie III programs. 7. Community Resource Pool. Supt. Larson described the Community Resource Pool, t_ s a multicommunity effort to bring volunteers into the schools to share their expertise. This is a program in which the district will begin participation during the 1981-82 year. 8. Councilmember Ludeman raised the question of what the community's role is going to be in the sheltering of battered children and adults.
