11-17-1980 SpecialCITY OF RICHFIELD Special Meeting With Human Rights Commission November 17, 1980 The city council of the City of Richfield met in special ~. session with the Richfield Human ghts Commission in the council chambers of the city hall on Monday, November 17, 1980 at 6:30 p.m. Steve Soucy, Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, opened the meeting at 6:40 p.m. Present: Bunce, Collins, Ludeman, Luettinger, Priebe Soucy, Sable, Garcia, McKeown, The commission members discussed with members of the city council their goals and objectives for the commission for the coming year. The purpose of the commission was also discussed. Mayor Priebe stated that he felt the commission was a communica- tion vehicle between the community and the city council. He . noted that the city has a strong commitment to try to make .- sure. that discr.imina;tion~ of, any kind does not occur in Richfield. - Council Member Luettinger requested that the commission - 4 advise council members of their proposed plans and activities . ' and coordinate them with' the city council. Steve Soucy described the commission's-participation iri - the No Fault .Grievance Process training seminars, and the proposed "Spotlite on Seniors" which will be published in the Richfield Sun beginning in 1981. The commission's role as an investigative body for the city council was discussed. The' . commission noted -that it will also put together a pamphlet describing the purpose and activities of the Human Rights Commission which will be available to the public.- The annual "Citizen of the Year" award was also discussed.. The Human Rights Chairman noted-that the commission was des- irous of renaming this award the "Gene-Jacobsen Citizen of the Year Award". - Motion by Collins, seconded by Ludeman that the Citizen of the Year Award be renamed the."Gene Jacobsen Citizen of the Year Award."
