06-21-1976 SpecialCITY OF RICHFIELD .Special Meeting June 21, 1976 The Richfield City Council met in special session on June 21, 1976 at 5:45 PM for a 3oint meeting with the Bloomington City Council to discuss the proposed MTC bus garage. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Law who announced the purpose of this special meeting was to discuss the proposed location of an MTC bus garage. Present: Jacobs@n, Luettinger, Law Absent: Anderson, Ludeman A11 other attendees are listed on the attached sheet. Both city councils voiced their disapproval of the proposed 12th Avenue location. MTC representatives stated they had not received replies from Washington r on the result of the environmental impact study and have been looking for alternative sites but have as yet been unsuccessful. Mr. Ray Glumack, staff director of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, commented on the 24th Avenue site which had been suggested as an alternative . He stated the 24th Avenue site is not available as the MAC can not release the land since it was initially purchased with federal funds and must be utilized for airport purposes. He stated that the MA.C still offers the 34th Avenue site as an alternative, Representatives of the MTC listed some disadvantages to the 34th Avenue site, such as the difficult routes the buses would need to take to arrive at the garage,inadequate access ramps and noise to close by residents. Special Council Meeting -2- June 21, 1976 Motion by Mr. Mahon, of the Bloomington council, that the Bloomington City Council opposes the 12th Avenue site and encourages the MAC, MTC, federal government and all other .governmental bodies involved to explore the possibility of utilizing the 34th Avenue site. The motion was seconded by John Malone, city of Bloomington, with the stipulation that the motion read "reject the 12th Avenue site". Mr. Mahon agreed. Motion was carried by the Bloomington council. Motion by Luettinger, seconded by Jacobsen, that the Richfield City Council pass the same motion. : A11 ayes - Carried. Absent - Anderson, Ludeman. Both the Richfield and Bloomington city councils agreed to request an opportunity to report on the joint city council meeting at the next MAC meeting. The meeting adjourned at 6:55 PM.
