SPECIAL MEETING
BUDGET HEARING
October 5, 1970
Pursuant to the budget hearing of September 30, 1970, the council reconvened
to continue the budget meeting as a special session on Monday, Ootober 5, 1970,`in
the council chambers of the city hall, 6700 Portland Avenue, at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor:0lson.
Present: Anderson, Jacobsen, Luettinger, Law, and Olson,
Absent: None.
1. Public Safety Department - Police Division.
The council reviewed the proposed Public Safety Department budget - Police

Division, Motion by Olson, seconded by Law, that Account 1360 be reduced to $4,200;
a deduction. of $800.
A11-ayes - Carried,
Motion by Anderson, seconded by Luettinger, that $180 be deleted from Account
1560, reducing this Account to $1,298.
All ayes - Carried.
Vincent Murphy, 7201 Russell Avenue, and Don Houlding, 7145 13th Avenue

2, Public Safety Department -Fire Division,
The Public Safety Department - Fire Division - was reviewed by the council.
Motion by Anderson to reduce Account 1550 by $5,000, to a total of $20,000.
Motion lost for lack of a secgnd, No changes in proposed budget made for this
division,
Francis Kalusche, 7600 4th Avenue So., appeared in interest,.

3, Public Safety Department - Civil Defense,
The Civil Defense--division of the Public Safety Department was reviewed by
the council and no changes made.

4. Public Works Department - Eng~.neering.
The Engineering budget was reviewed. Motion by Law, seconded by Luettinger,
that the administration develop a policy on the use of city owned cars and that a
comparative report-also be made on other community policies.
All ayes - Carried.
The council decided to withhold a decision on the capital outlay item of
$2,250 for three calculators.
5. Public Works Department - Inspection.
The Inspection budget was reviewed and no changes made by the council.
6. Public Works Department - Street.
The street D~.vision budget was reviewed. Motion by_:Anderson ~o':delete.$8;052
($8,!964 including fringe benefits) from Account No. 1010, for an additional man,

be accepted and that this new position be assigned mainly to tree trimming and spraying,

Motion by Anderson, seconded by Olson, that they withhold a decision on budget
request for striping machine, in the amount of $1,000.
A11 ayes - Carried.
Motion by Jacobsen, seconded by Luettinger, that a decision be withheld on the
salt portion of Account 1350, in the amount of $5,800..
A11 ayes - Carried,
Motion by Jacobsen, seconded by Luettinger, that the meeting be;,recessed to
6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 1970.
All ayes - Carried,
