The meeting was called to order by Mayor Olson, Present: Anderson, Jacobsen, Luettinger and Olson. Absent: Randall (on vacation) Asst. Mark-Jones appeared explaining that the balconies were in the original plans but the ciosir~ in of ~1b.e balconies was not offered, Steve Miller, member of the Plantaing Commission, offered suggestion on improving the appearance of the balconies. Motion bq Anderson, seconded by Jacobsen, that the council permit the shakes to remain if the lower line be straightened, and allow the variation to be extended to the fence, All ayes - carried. 3l. Neighborhood Discussion - Park Area 63rd & Lg-ndale Don Larson, 508~W. 64th St., represented property owners opposing addi- tional development such as swings and basketball courts. Donald 5onmore, 6300 Harriet Ave., spoke with a neutral. position. Mrs. Sirois and Mrs. Johnson also appea red. Mr. Kelsen spoken The council determined that abutting property owners were divided on -13- Aug. 3, 1964 whether or not basketball courts should be included in the playground plan. A suggestion was made that equipment for use of small children should be spread over the entire area, i.e. swings, slides, etc. Motion by Olson, seconded by Luettinger, that basketball courts be deleted from purchase of equipment, sub- stituting. small children equipment, and that it be spread evenlq over the entire park area. The council felt that the residence requirement should be met before consideration of approval for on-sale beer, The attorney stated that if the applicant secures residence by the time he operates under the license, it is acceptable under the ordinance, but that the courts generally uphold the opinion and, judgment of the governing body.
