Special Meeting
January 4, 1961
Pursuant to action taken at the meeting of December 27, 1960, the council
met in the council chambers, 6700 Portland AveO, Wednesday, January 4, 1961

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Keldsen.

. Discussion on Swimming Pools
Mro Larl~in of Larkin and Associates appeared before the council for a

discussion of preliminary phases on the proposed swimming pool. 'Ph~e
question of the number of pools necessary for a community of this size was
raised and Mr. Larkin answered that it would appear that two pools should
be built. Secondly, the question of~the earliest date that construction
eould begin was raised, and the answer was approximately eight months.
MrQ Larkin also stated that in order for a pool to be built in a par ti=
cular year, the month of August of the preceding year is a good time for
the people to vote on a bond issue if this method of financing is usedo
Bob Gunderson, chairman of the school. board indicated that the school.
is interested in cooperating with the village on locating a pool in either
the Blliot or hest Junior High School areas. The council asked Mr. Larkin to
Look into the feasibility of a plastic dome covering in order to give year=
round pool.sesvice, and also to look into the costs and feasibility of an
aluminum pool®
Motion by 5erstock, seconded by Shields, that the brochures presented
on aluminum pools be accepted and filed. All ayes o carriedo 06275

At 8:00 P.M, the meeting reconvened with all council members present to>
gether with the following members from the Long Range Capital Improvements=
Commission present: Shinier, Coombs, Shultheis, Brspamer; Loren Gasterland
was also present,
Discussions were held on the recommendation contained in the Commission°s
Report #3.
Motion by Keldsen, seconded by Ard erson, that the manager and attorney
draw up an ordinance establishing a public works reserve fund to be presented
at the January 2 3rd meeting, All ayes m carried.
Motion by Keldseng seconded by Schultz, that Mr, Shinier and Mr. Shultheis
be reappointed as members of the Planning Commission, and that members of the
councir present names of their selection for the other three positions with
appointments to be made at the January 9th meeting. A11 ayes carried,
Motion by Keldsen, seconded by Serstock, that the outgoing members be
commended for their diligent community service and that awards be presented
to them at the next council meetings
Motion by Serstock, seconded by Schultz, that the meeting be ad,~ourned.
