Playground F.quipmen t. ~' and The Village Engineer presented tabulation of bids on playground equipment received on N1ay 25, 1953, and recommended that the bid be awarded to Farnham Stationery anolr School Supply Company of I~i.nneapolis, Motion by Walters, seconded by ~uhields that because of the superiority of design, Farnham Stationery and School Supply Company be determined to be the lowest responsible bidder on playg~eound equipment and that their bid in .the amount of X589.20 be accepted, and bid securities of the unsuccessful bidders be returned. Motion by Walters, seconded by 5'hi.elds that the plans for the village-wide street oiling program be mgdifi~d.to include the area around Lyndale Avenue and 66th Street, and that they illage Manager be authorized to cause the streets ,in this area to be oiled, and"he shall inform the property owners that they must • contract for the surfacing of their own property. Carried. 17. Proposed Park. The Village Engineer read a report on a proposed park at Thomas & 65th~Street. 'Discussion followed. Motion by Walters, seconded by Shields that the council refer to the Engineer, ~~~ Y for further study, the problem of a proposed park at':~Thomas A enue and 65th Sts~eet. Carried. 18. Divisial of Land. Kelley. Elmer D. Kelley, 7329 Lyndale Avenue South, appeared before the council relative to the division of land requested by him at the meeting of May 25, -1953 • The problem was discussed until 8:30 P.M. Further discussion was deferred until after the advertised hearing on the proposed new plats. 19. Proposed-New Plats. It being 8:30 P. M., the advertised hearing on proposed new plats was called. Acting Mayor Iverson read the legal publication of the notice of hearing. 1. Mikkelson ~3ivision. Part of Lot 7, Nc Cabe's Woodlake Du.tlots, Ntr. Mikkelson appeared and no objectors wera present. Nr. I~.kkelson explained that lie was only interested in Dots C and D of Lot 7, NcCabe's Woodlake au.tlots, and asked that this be considered a division of ].and rather than a new plat. A. G. Bogen_Company. The Village Engineer reported that Nr. Bogen had asked fha.t his request be postponed. Not3.on by Walters, seconded by Rose that the hearing on the proposed new plat of ~A. G. Bogen be continued until the next regular meeting. - Garried. 3. Baker-Peterson 5 cond~Addition. Arthur Baker, 428 Chicago Avenue, appeared before the council asking approval of the plat of Baker- Peterson second Addition. No persons appeared in objection. Motion by Walters, seconded by Iversca~ that the council -tentatively approve the plat of Baker-Peterson second addition, and authorize the mayor and manager to execute a contract with Balser, Adolphson & Peterson, 2$17 Bryant Avenue South, t~'.ruleapolis~ Carried. Motion by Walters seconded by Rose that the council refer -to the zoning Commisssiony without advertising for hearing, the request of Eric Sundquist for a front yard zoning variance at 6120 Bloomington Avenue South. Notion by Walters, seconded by :Shields that the council accept the deed from the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for the N 50' of b6th Street West of the Minneapolis, Northfield and Southern Railway, and assign it Clerk's File No. C-b93. Carried. 22. Commercial Building Permit. Motion by Shields, secanded by Walters that the council approve securing an aerial -map of the Vil.la.ge at a cost of ,350.00 to be made at whatever time the Village Engineer deems proper. Payment for this map to be made from the contingency appropriation of the general fund. Carried. 25. Extra. help- Street Division. Motion by Shields, seconded by Walters that the council authorize the emg].oyment of four temporary men in the street Division at X1.65 per hour, wages of whom are to be charged to the sanitary sewer fund. Carried. 29. Storm Sewer Assessment. Anderson. The Village Attorney reported on the request of A. E. Anderson, 5224 43rd Ave: S. Minneapolis, for_ relief from•starm sewer assessments in Consolidated- D. district on his property at 6429 Portland Avenue S. The a ttorney reported that he had discussed with the attorneys who had negotiated for the purchase of Mud Lake bottom area, acid- they had stated that no promises or representations had been made, and that the previous council had determined that this property was benefited. 244 Motion by Shields, seconded by Rose that the Village 1~ianager be instructed to inform Mr. Anderson that no relief from his storm sewer assessment will be granted since it appears that no pr3mises have over been made, and that the previous council has determined that his property was benefited. Carried. 30. Building Permit. iki.nutz Maxi Automatic Car Washer. Motion by Shields, seconded by Walters that the council grant the commercial building permit for N#inute Man Automatic Car Washer at 64th street and Lyndale Aroenue, as requested b~ G. E. Strom, 307 W. 66th St., provided, however, that the Village is granted easement to Grass Lake bottom for drainage purposes, and further provided that all drives must be approved by the Village ~gineer. Motion by Walters, seconded by Shields to allow the bill of ~G. M. Orr Engineering Company for engineering services in the amount of X528.00. Carried. Report on Hub Shopping Center. The Village Engineer read the report of the PSayeron Engineering Company, relative to examination and approval of plans for the Hub Shopping Center. Motion by Walters, seceded by Shields that the council allow the bi_11 of :the P~ayeron Engineering Company i.n the amount of X168.75 for examination of the plans df the Hub Shopping Center, and that Henry Shandeling Sons Corp., be- billed for this amount as per their contract. Motion by Walters, seconded by Rose that the manager be instructed to write Iverson Investment Compaq, requesting them to maintain their rental property along Nioollet Avenue to conform with the standards of the neighborhood..
