RESOLUTION DIRECTING CITY MANAGER TO REQUEST COMMISSIONER
OF HIGHWAYS, STATE OF MINNESOTA, TO CONDUCT TRAFFIC SPEED
SURVEY ON PORTLAND AVENUE (CSAH 35) ® NICOLLET AVENUE (CSAH'
52), PENN AVENUE (CSAH 32) AND 66TH STREET
WHEREAS, the City of Richfield is primarily a residential community and the City
Council is very concerned about the safety of its residents, especially the children,
and
WHEREAS, the city council believes that there is a direct correlation between
automobile and pedestrian safety on the streets in a residential community and
WHEREAS, the national speed limit has been reduced to 55 miles per hour with
many indications that such reductions are resulting in fewer accidents and traffic
deaths and injuries, and
WHEREAS, the city council at its May 13, 1974 city council meeting considered
increasing the speed limit from 30 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour on 76th Street
between Cedar Avenue and Xerxes Avenue, but decided to retain a 30 mile per hour
speed limit on that street, and
WHEREAS, the city council recognizes the desirability of a uniform speed limit
on all arterial streets located within the City of Richfield.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield,
Minnesota a s follows :
The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to present to the Commissioner
of Highways, State of Minnesota and to the Hennepin County Administrator a req~ st
that necessary actions be taken by these agencies to reduce the speed limit from 35
miles per hour to 30 miles per hour on the following roads in the City of Richfield:
Partland Avenue (CSAH 35)
Nir°o11et Avenue (CSAH S2)
Penn Avenue (CSAH 32)
55~~ Street (CSAH 53}
