1974-5159rRESOLUTION Nc'~o 5159 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING FILL RELATING TU THE OFF'ICTa OF THE FIRE CI=TIFF AND ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF FOR THE CITY OF RIOT-IFIFLD WHEREAS the Richfield City Council has adopted a 1®ca1 r~rdinance creating a single public safety department with. a police division, fire division, and civil defense division replacing the former three separate departments of police . fire., and civil defense a and WHEREASo th.e city does no~v have a position ®f public safety director as department direct®~° reap®nsibi.e for all phases of the public safety department s~~°-~ vices, and WHEREASo the ne~v organizational structure for the public safety depart rent does net require both a division head and assistant di,vi~i®n head within the fire divisi®n ~ and WHEREAS, the position for fire chief is currently vacant and the city would realize substantial savings if bath the chief and assistant chief positi®n did not have to be filled, and WHERI~AS® the city does not want to jeopardize tie receipt cif the state aid provided by 1VIinnescta Statutes Chapter 69 o and NOW, THEREFORE, SE IT RESOLVED that the city council cif the City of Richfield, 1Vlinnesc~ta requests that special legislati®n be enacted see thato n©t withstanding the previsions of Minnesota Statutes, Section 69.011 , Subdivision 4ao the City of Richfield may maintain the position of either fire chief or assistanr fire chief, but is not required to maintain both positions to qualify for the state aid authorized by this section.
