1973-5072rRESOLUTION NO, 5072 ~~ 1 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING ENACTMENT OF SUBREGIONAL PUBLIC TRANSIT SYSTEM LEGISLATION WHEREAS, mounting problems of traffic congestion in urban areas require the establishment of effective and efficient systems of public transportation, and WHEREAS, the deployment of public transit system, on a subregional basis, utilizing new technology and innovative use of existing technologies offers a reasonable promise of demonstrating the effectiveness of public transit in relieving such problems , and WHEREAS, the development and deployment of a subregional public transit system can only be accomplished by the coordinated efforts of the federal, state, and local levels of government and regional agencies, and WHEREAS, legislation providing for the planning, design, construction and deployment of a subregional public transit system, using state and federal finan- cing, will be proposed to the Minnesota legislature, and WHEREAS, the proposed legislation authorizes the cities of Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina and Richfield to participate in the deployment of such a system. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield , Minnesota ; 1 . The city supports the proposed legislation entitled "A bill for an act relating to a subregional public transit system appropriating money therefore" providing for the planning, design, construction and- deployment of a subregional public transit system, and urges the Minnesota legislature to enact it into law. 2. The city manager is authorized and directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to senators and representatives from Richfield and to the Chairmen of the appropriate standing committees of the Minnesota legislature.
