RESOLUTION NO, 4956 RESOLUTION REGARDING THE COUNTING OF ABSENTEE BALLOTS PRIOR TO CLOSING OF THE POLLS ON ELECTION DAY WHEREAS, the counting of. absentee ballots after the polls have closed in the City of R.?clifield is a time consuming procedure which virtually eliminates the time®saving advantage of the use of voting machineso and WHEREAS, it is felt that a more accurate and speedy count could be accomplished if the count could be started during the day when Election Judges are not weary and under pressure; and WHEREAS, the results of the election would be evident at an earlier hour on Election Night; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED that the Rlchfiield City Council urge the 1973 Minnesota State Legislature to adopt a bill which is being proposed by Representative Darrel Miller which would permit the tabulation and counting of absentee ballots prior to the closing of the polls, inasmuch as such a procedure would greatly improve the timeliness of election results provided that the law also provide that once a voter applies for an absentee ballot, he must vote absentee d in order to prevent duplicate voting, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of trsis resolution be transmitted to Senator William Kirchner and Representatives Ernest Lindstrom and James Swanson.
