RESOLUTION OPPOSING SENATE FILE 648 AND
HOUSE FILE 605 REGARDING VOTER REGISTRATION
WHE~tREAS, the present orderly system of voter registration in the State of
'"Zi~nesota is designed to protect tl~ie integrity of voter rega.st~°ation~ and
WHEREAS, Senate File 648 and House File 605 provide that unregistered voters
will be permitted to register at the polls on Election Days and
WHEREAS the adoption of Senate File 648 and House File 605 would virtually
eliminate the permenent voter registration systeme. and
WHEREAS, such. registration would necessitate the expansion of k~udgets of
municipalities already strapped by levy limitationsa and
WHEREAS, the limitation of physical facilities at many polling places would nc~t
permit the additional activity which would be caused by registration of voters on
Election Daya and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Richfield
strongly express its opposition to Senate File 648 and house File 605a and.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted to Senator
William I~.irchner and to Representatives Ernest Lindstrom and James Swansono
