1972-4729rRESOLUTION NOe 4729 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION UNDER THE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION ACT (Pole 91-516 TO DEVELOP PROGRAMS AT WOODLAKE NATURE CENTER FOR THE EMOTIONALLY, PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY HANDICAPPED WHEREAS, the City of Richfield contains a unique 150 acre nature center located in a metropolitan area of one and one-half million people; and WHEREAS, the City of Richfield offers this facility free of charge to the public; and WHEREAS, the City of Richfield, through the Woodlake Nature Center's present programs, is providing activities for the entire family from pre-schooler to senior citizens; and WHEREAS, the City of Richfield would like to expand its programs to include activities specifically designed to meet the needs and abilities of the emotionally, physically and mentally handicapped; and WHEREAS, the development of these programs would provide this segment of the population an opportunity to broaden their understanding and appreciation of their surroundings as well as provide an opportunity for the handicapped to become involved with their counterparts enabling the process of normalization to take place; and WHEREAS, the City of Richfield needs financial assistance in order to expand the opportunities in this area, and WHEREAS, this Council believes this project meets the priorities and standards established under the Educational Environmental Act; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield, as follows: The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed to prepare and present to the Ue Se Department of Health, Education and Welfare a project proposal and application for financial assistance under the Environmental Education Act to develop programs at the Woodlake Nature Center specifically designed to meet the needs and abilities of the emotionally, physically and mentally handicapped Passed by the council of the City of Richfield this 24th day of January, 1972m r, y i j, ~~ ren L.~ La ~ ay' r ATTEST: ,, ~: Thomas Moran, Clerk-Treas.
