RESOLUTION NO . 4560
IN SUPPORT OF A BILL IMPOSING
A METROPOLITAN SALES TAX
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Richfield is the official governing
body of the City of Richfield; and
WHEREAS, for the past several years, the City Council has had of prime
concern the increased amount of taxes imposed upon landowners within the
Metropolitan Area and in the City of Richfield due to rising costs for municipal and
other governmental services; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that most taxpayers who own property
in the City of Richfield or in other areas are of the opinion that their own real
property taxes have red-ched a level which is too high for the average taxpayer;
and ~
WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that steps must be taken to
remove the tax burden imposed upon the owners of real property; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed a bill pending before the 1971
Legislature, designated as Senate File No. 2636; and the companion bill in the
House designated as House File No. 2995; and
WHEREAS , the City Council is of the opinion that Senate File No . 2 63 6 and
House File No. 2995, if enacted by the Legislature, would provide a fair tax which
would benefit property owners in the Metropolitan Area .
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RICHFIELD that the City Council of the City of Richfield hereby endorses Senate
File No. 2636 and House File No. 2995 and urges the Legislature of the State of
Minnesota to enact these bills into law.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is hereby directed to
forward copies of this resolution to the Honorable William Kirchner, the
Honorable Ernest Lindstrom, the Honorable fames Swanson, representatives to
the Legislature from Richfield; and to the members of the Senate and House Tax
Committees and that they are hereby requested to support Senate File No. 2636
and House File No. 2995.
