1970-4481rv) ~. .~ RESOLUTION Nos 4481 RESOLUTION REQUESTING REPRESENTATION ON THE METROPOLITAN ATRPORTS COMMISSION WHEREAS, virtually two-thirds of the Twin Cities metropolitan population has no representation on the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which is in violation of the "One Man, One Vote'° principle established by the Federal Supreme Court, and WHEREAS, the suburban communities are most directly affected by the Metropolitan Airports Commission's decisions, and ~. V~'~EREAS, testimony given at the MoA,Co meetings points out conclusively that a decision for a commercial airport, be it north or south, is only the first step in an overall airport facility expansion program, and WHEREAS, according to this same testimony general .aviation traffic will increase ten-fold by the year 2000, and WHEREAS, anywhere from six to a dozen additional general aviation air- ports must be bui~.t in the Twin Cities suburban areas to accommodate this great expansion of general aviation traffic, and WHEREAS, decisions on neither a commercial site nor the many general aviation sites should be made until suburban areas are properly represented on the N~etropolitan Airports Commission, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield, Minnesota as follows: This council endorses the action of twenty-eight mayors of the Greater Twin Cities Metropolitan Area asking the 1971 State Legislature to reconsti- tute the Metropolitan Airports Commission so as to provide appropriate subur- ban representations Passed by the city council of the City of Richfield this 9th day of November, 1970 W• Stanley W, Olson Mayor lu, Attest: Thomas Jo M n City Clerk
