1969-4290rRESOLUTION No. 4290 A RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE PROPOSED CLOSING OF NAVAL AIR STATION TWIN CITIES \ WHEREAS, there are approximately 850 full time military and civilian personnel of Naval Air Station Twin Cities who, with their dependents, rely upon such facility for their livelihood, and WHEREAS, over 2,300 Navy and Marine Corps Reserves currently use such facility for military drills, and WHEREAS, approximately 20 million dollars per year is expended by such station with over 12 million dollars of such funds expended on salaries and local purchases, and WHEREAS, many of such employees and reserves are residents of the City of Richfield, and WHEREAS, the loss of such station would have a detrimental impact upon the economy of the City of Richfield and other municipalities in the area, and WHEREAS, such station has been eminently successful as a facility for the re- cruiting of military personnel of the highest quality, and WHEREAS, the loss of such Naval Air Station will make it far more difficult for former military personnel to continue in reserve units and reserve training, and WHEREAS, it appears that the loss of such Naval Air Station would therefore have a severe impact upon this area and would have a detrimental effect upon the military preparedness of the United States, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield as follows: 1. This Council herewith goes on record as being strongly opposed to the closing of Naval Air Station Twin Cities. 2. This Council urges the Department of Defense to reconsider its decision to close such Naval Air Station. 3. This Council urges the Congressmen representing this area to use their best efforts to prevent such Naval Air Station from being closed. 4. Let copies of this resolution be sent to members of Congress representing the City of Richfield and to such other persons as the City Manager shall deem advisable. 1969.
