RESOLUTION REGARDING VOYAGEURS NATIONAL PARK
WHEREAS, the Voyageurs National Park would preserve for the Public a
region of great scenic, natural and historic significance
Geologic: The remnants of a multi.-million year old natural
resource
Historic: It occupies an important segment of the romantic
Voyageurs Highway
Scenic: It provides a unique feature; .instead of looking at
water from the land, land is viewed by water; and
WHEREAS, the Voyageurs National Park would attract nationwide attention
to Minnesota's superb outdoor recreational facilities that has no counter-
part in-the present national park system; and
WHEREAS, the Voyageurs National Park would provide new impetus for state-
wide economic growth through expansion of the tourist industry and enlarge
significantly the tax dollars for our State; and
WHEREAS, this is the only Canadian borders water area in the Upper Midwest
that meets the rigid requirements of the National Park Service for establish-
ing a National Park:
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE City of Richfield supports establishment
of the Voyageurs National Park and urges its authorization by the United
States Congress as soon as possible.
