RESOLUTION ENDORSING CONCEPT PLA"H ~°~!~ rs~I'ROk7OLITAN ZOO.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Council has been given statutory authority~to
investigate and make recommendations.on the feasibility of establishing ametro-
politan area zoo, and
~`~~:EAS, acting under •~~~'~ ..:~h;ority, the Metz~e ~ °~d Council appoints
a zoo advisory committee°, and
WHEREAS, such advisory committee has recommended the estatilishtrient of ~a
metropolitan zoo and-has made recommendations to the Metropolitan Council con-
cerning the nature of such pro~ect,.the manner in which it should be established
and several alternative methods by which it might be financed, and

WHEREAS, it appears to this council that. the establishment of a large modern
zoo would be a very desirable recreational,. scientific, educational and economic
asset for the metropolitan area and would add to the attractiveness and livability
of this metropolitan area; •
. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOhVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield,
Minnesota, as follatas
1: The city council Herewith endorses, the generdl concept of establishing a
.metropolitan zoo.of the -type .described in the report of the Metropblitan_Council's .
Zoo Advisory.-Commute.
2: The council urges metropolitan area legislators, .and particularly the
legisl"ators"representing the City of Richfield, to use their best efforts to
secure passage o,f enabling legislation which will permit the. establishment of
a metropolitan zoo.- -
3. Let copies. of this resolution~be sent to the legislators representing-
the City of Richfield, the members of the Metropolitan Council, the members of.
the -Metropolitan. Council's Zoo Advisory Commit-tee, the Metropolitan~Sectio~ of
the League. of Minnesota Municipalities, and-the Hennepin County League of Muni-.
cipalities. -
