EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Primary Election was conducted on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in conjunction with the State Primary Election. The City Primary Election included contests for the office of Council Member Ward One. The "unofficial" results of the election are attached and any relevant updates will be provided at the City Council meeting. The Richfield City Charter states that the Council shall meet and canvass the election returns at the next regular or Special Council meeting immediately following any regular, primary or special election, but in no event later than the time prescribed by State law, and must make full declaration of the results as soon as possible, and file a statement thereof with the City Clerk. RECOMMENDED ACTION: By Motion: Approve the resolution determining the results of the City Primary Election on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. BASIS OF RECOMMENDATION: A.HISTORICAL CONTEXT This information is contained within the Executive Summary. B.EQUITABLE OR STRATEGIC CONSIDERATIONS OR IMPACTS C.POLICIES (resolutions, ordinances, regulations, statutes, exc): The City Charter provides that the City Council declare the results of the election. Minnesota Statutes Chapter 205 governs the conduct of municipal elections. D.CRITICAL TIMING ISSUES: The City Council must take action by August 16, 2024. E.FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact. F.LEGAL CONSIDERATION: Legal review is not required. ALTERNATIVE RECOMMENDATION(S): There are no alternative recommendations.
