RBSOLU TTON IN SUPPORT OF LEGISLATION ON THB 5UBJBCT OP
DILAPIDAT$D BUILDII~S
WHEREAS, the number~of dilapidated buildings and structures in the City of Rich-
field is increasing, and
UVHBRBAS, such buildings and structures constitute a health and safety hazard, and
WHEREAS, such buildings seriously deprecia to adjacent property, and
WHEREAS, existing laws of the State of Minnesota provide for the repair of removal
of such structures only when they cons titute afire hazard to adjacent property, and
WHEREAS, other hazards besides fire hazard are created by such structures, and
WHEREAS, the repair or removal of such dilapidated structures cannot now be ac-
compiished under existing state statutes, and
WHEREAS, the League of Minnesota Municipalities has approved proposed legislation
modeled after the excellent legislation on this subject now in effect in the
State of Wisconsin;
NOW THEREFORE, BB IT RE50LVBD by the City Council of the City of Richfield, as ..
follows:
1. This council herewith records its support for legislation
authorizing the cities and villages of the State of Minnesota
to take action required to obtain the repair or removal of dila-
pidated buildings and structures, and, more specifically, the
legislation on that subject prepared by the League of.Minnesota
Municipal ities~
2. Let copies of this resolution be sent to the senator and re-
presentatives of the 32nd Legislative District and to such other
members of the Minnesotan State Legislature as the city manager
may deem appropriate.
