10-08-2024 Resolution 12251RESOLUTION NO. 12251 RESOLUTION APPROVING THE GRANT WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF JUSTICE PROGRAMS AND RICHFIELD POLICE FOR BULLETPROOF VESTS Since FY 2015, body armor vests were directly attributable to saving the lives of at least 305 law enforcement and corrections officers (based on data collected by OJP). Forty- three of those body armor vests were purchased, in part, with BVP funds. WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice is committed to improving officer safety and has undertaken research to review and analyze violent encounters and law enforcement officer deaths and injuries; and, WHEREAS, the Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) was created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998 and is a unique U.S. Department of Justice initiative designed to provide a critical resource to state and local law enforcement; and, WHEREAS, the Richfield Department of Public Safety has been informed that a grant has been awarded to the department by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs under their Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) program, for $5,509.36 for the purchase of ballistic vests; and, WHEREAS, the BVP grant is under the Fiscal Year 2024 BVP awards, allowing purchases beginning on or after April 1, 2024 until August 31, 2026, or until all available 2024 award funds have been requested. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield, Minnesota, that the Public Safety Department and the Deputy Director of Public Safety will enter into an agreement to receive grant money for Richfield’s bulletproof vest expenditures as outlined in the agreement.
