1961-2407r 1 U RESOLUTION No, ~ 240' RESOLUTION SUPPORTING PROPOSED LEGISLATION FOR STATE WIDE WATER RESOURCES STUDY ANB METROPOLITAN WATER SUPPLY AATD DISTRIBUTION STUDY 0 ~ ,~. W d ~~~ WHEREAS, an adequate supply of healthful, uncontaminated water is a matter of primary importance to the entire state, AND WHEREAS, information on quantity, locations availabilit~re degree of pollution' as well an other basic characteristics of our water resources, is needed on a continuing basis for the formulation of a statewide water policy9 ~ ~. AND WHEREAS, the problem of water supply and distribution in the Twin City metropolitan area in particular has come under intense study by many concerned organ izations and municipalities as a result of reports of water contamination9; AND WHEREAS, the questions of whether adequate water resources. exist in the metropolitan area, how they can best be developed and managed, and what are the most economic a1 and practical means of distributing these resources cannot be satisfactorily answered with data now available' AND WHEREAS, to development of arm=:nd the stat ~„ AND WHEREAS, studies now being ously completed, information on these basic questions is essential a souYid water policy for both the metropolitan e as a whole9 .. there is a need to coordinate the various independent made and to utilise the data of other studies prev~.® AND WHEREAS,. the League of Minnesota Municipalities has considered no specific approach to the metropolitan water supply and distribution problem but is of the opinion that, in the best interests of the state as a whole, any solution should be grounded in a thorough study of statewide water resources combined with an engineering feasibility study of the metropolitan area in particular0 RESOLVED t That the Village of Richf ie`d. requests that the 1961 legislature authorize the appropriate agencies to conduct a statewide water resources study and an engineering feasibility study of alter® native methods of meeting the Twin Cit ies metropolitan water supply and distribution problem0 .
