1957-1474rRESOLUTION NO. 1474 RESOLUTION RELATING TO Tt1E CASHING OF CHECKS BY THE MUNICIPAL i1@UGH STORE - -- WrIEREAS, Minnesota Statutes, Section 340.0?, subdivision 5 pro- vides in part that a municipal liquor store may be operated by a muni- cipality gas the governing body thereof shall direct" and WriEREA5, the Attorney General of the State of Minnesota on October 31, 1957, ruled that the governing body of a municipality could authorize the cashing of patrap~s checks, in connection with the opera- tion of a municipal liquor store, and WHEREAS, the acceptance of checks for the payment of other ob- ligations to the village is a well establishPd~p ractice. NOW, Tt~EREFORE, BE IT f~ESOLVED by the Village Council of the -Village of Richfield as follows: i. The employees of the municipal liquor stores of the Village of Richfield are hereby authorized to accept such checks as they in their discretion, deem t® be reliable in payment far merchandise pur- chased at the municipal liquor stores. 2. This authority shall be subject tp such regulations as the village manager may prescribe to safeguard the village against the acceptance of checks which might not be genuine. 3. This authority shall not extend to the cashing of checks for greater amounts that the amount of the purchase being made by the patron so as to require the payment of cash to the patron in addition to merchandise. 4. This authority shall expire on January 14, 1958, unless hereafter extended by action of the Council. Adopted by the Village Council of the Village of Richfield this 17th day of December, 1957.
