A RESOLIITION RELATING TO MINNEAPOLIS
GAS CO1~+LPANY RATES
WHEREAS, the Minneapolis Gas Company has announced an increase in
consumer gas rates, effective January 1, 1953, which is applicable to the
Village of Richfield, and,
WHEREAS, with said increase, consumers in the Village of Richfield
are required to pay from 25~ to 5~ more for gas than residents of the City
of Minneapolis immediately adjacent to the Village of Richfield as shown by
the following comparisons ~
(First Step----50~ higher) Nd.nneapolis consumers
receive 300 cubic feet for the first X1.00 charge,
which is 50I more than the~200 cubic feet received
bar residents of Richfield for the first X1.00 charge.
(Second Step--25~ higher ). Minneapolis consv~rs are
charged 72 cents per thousand cubic feet up to a
total of 30,000 cubic feet, while Richfield consumers.
are charged g0 cents per thousand cubic feet.
(Third Step--3$.1~~ higher) Minneapolis consumers are
charged 65 cents per thousand cubic feet for amounts
in excess of 30,000 feet, but less than 500,000 cubic
. feet, while Richfield consumers receive no reduction
.for amounts above 30,000 cubic feet and are oharged
90 cents per thousand cubic feet, and
WHEREAS, the letter from said company seeking to explain said increase
states that 'the increase is to "defray its increased expenses' while the
comparative earnings statement submitted by said company shows that the
proceeds of said increase will go solely to the increase of profits before
taxes, and
~iHEREAS, said letter states. that 57.67 of the proceeds from such in-
crease gill be used to pay state and federal income taxes, while the said
earnings statement shows that the tax rate on the profits from said in=
crease t~3.11 be only ~.57~, and
~~tHEREAS, `this Council believes that the rate of consumption pe'r resi-
dential connection is higher in this Village than in said City9 that the
percentage of residences connected is higher than in said City9 and that
the cost of new installations is higher in said City than in this Village.
NQW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVEBs
1. That this Council enter a vigorous protest to said Comparxy
against said increase..
2. That the Village N~.nager be hereby authorized and directed to re-
quest a meeting between this .Council and representatives of-said company to
