minutes 2001CITY OF RICHFIELD FRIENDSHIP CITY COMMISSION 6700 Portland Avenue Richfield, Minnesota 55423 March 15, 2001 Meeting called to order at 7:10 p.m. by the Chair. Members Present: Bill Bullock (chair), Kris Dahl, David Delzer, Beth Gleseke, Carol Mortenson, Jerome Pettis, Jennifer Samountry, John Sells, Julie Vogl, (Mayor Martin Kirsch (ex-officio member) and Cynthia Mandl (ex-officio member). Members Absent: None Motion to accept Secretary's report with corrections was adopted. Motion was made by Bill Bullock to allow three people to sign for the treasurer; John Sells, Bill Bullock, and Regis -----. 2nd by Dave Delzer. Motion adopted. High school group getting ready to leave for Costa Rica. They will be meeting with sculptor of the statue that will be installed on the corner of West 66th Street and Lyndale Avenue South. He speaks no English. Cynthia also talked with Carrousel Travel, who indicated they would be willing to contact Continental Airlines to help ship the sculpture up to Richfield. In 1996, Normandale Community College donated some children's books and two computers. Regarding Richfest, Bill Bullock has not heard from Barbara ----. Richfest may be held at a later date. Pam Dmytrenko will be making us a book, so someone needs to contact her. The big ox cart was in the area behind the council chambers and needed to be moved. But now it is missing and it needs to be found, so work can be done on it. Dave Delzer will contact the people in charge of Cattail Days for details. Bill Bullock will contact other Friendship City Commission chairs. Barb Knoll has the book with the pictures, etc. Cynthia Mandl will try to secure more coffee for our use. Members Absent: None Meeting was called to order by the past chair, Bill Bullock at 7:08 p.m. Election of officers was conducted and the following were elected: Bill Bullock (chair), David Delzer (vice chair), and Carol Mortenson (secretary). We are required. to meet the third Thursday of each month at City Hall, and it's an announced open public meeting. Richfield Planning Council is not a city commission. When do they meet and do they need more people to serve. Bill Bullock will check for more .information. We have not been getting reports on how much money the commission has in its account, it is believed that we have around $4,000. We received a letter from Heredia. Chad Leverson went to visit and is having a wonderful time. Sculpture Garden (Kirchbach Gardens) dedication will be in September 2001, at 66th St. and Lyndale Ave. There are groups from four (4) cities that have relations with Costa Rica and get together once a year for a meeting. September 15th is Costa Rican Independence Day. It has been suggested that we have a picnic at Veterans Park and have an unvailing. We do not have to do any setup. Cynthia Mandl has made phone calls for a soccer game. Bill Bullock will see if the V.F.W. and Silver Spoon want to get involved and who will be invited. Lupita will do the mailing. Who will host it? John Sells talked about money accounts (5.2% and 5.7%). He will get the paperwork filled out and find out what the deal is on the commission money. March 31st is Richfest and we should be involved again, not sure on starting time (10:00 or 11:30 a.m.). Someone needs to get things out of the locker and needs to make sure things are put back. David Delzer said he would volunteer, John Sells will bring a list, and Bill Bullock will go to the meeting. A group of twelve (12) high school students are going to Costa Rica. They will be gone for fifteen (15) days. Will be doing some sky diving and going to San Jose for some reading with little kids. Former city council member Krystal Stokes will be with them. We have been having a relationship with Costa Rica since 1991. We have had three or four dedications. Need to get the word out. Have had apen-pal relationship with our sister city. Cynthia Mandl will get information on what is going on in Costa Rica. They would like to get a fire truck, that works for their department. Would like to establish a video exchange. _. PAGE - 1
