79-6106R126 RESOLUTION NO. 6106 RESOLUTION REGARDING SENIOR CITIZEN rARE POLICY WHEREAS, the City of Richfield has supported numerous senior citizen programs, and WHEREAS, Richfield senior citizens are an active, vibrant group of residents, who make a positive impact both individually, and collectively, on the Richfield community, and WHEREAS, many Richfield senior citizens have been limited in their ability to contribute to the community by transportation limitations, and WHEREAS, the City of Richfield has instituted a senior citizen transportation program which operates within the confines of Richfield, and WHEREAS, Richfield senior citizens rely heavily on the Metro- politan Transit Commission to provide transportation for activi- ties and necessary services located outside the City of Richfield,. and WHEREAS, many senior citizens are also on fixed incomes which limit their mobility. IcIOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield that this City Council does go on record as opposing the implementation of a fare policy for senior citizens, as recently enacted by the Metropolitan Transit Commission, and BE IT FURTHER STATED that the Richfield City Council does encourage the Metropolitan Transit Commission to reevaluate its fare policy, and seek a means of reinstituting free rides for senior citizens on and through the Metropolitan Transit Commission system.
