RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT
OF THE RICHFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOL BOND REFERENDUM
FOR FACILITY RENOVATION/REMODELING AND TECHNOLOGY PROJECT
WHEREAS, Richfield Public Schools are a vital part of our
community; and
WHEREAS, Richfield Public Schools have demonstrated a superior
ability to provide high quality education for students of our
community; and
WHEREAS, the current Richfield Public Schools buildings are 33 to
45 years old; and
WHEREAS, the United States Congress approved the Americans with
Disabilities Act in 1992 which requires handicapped accessibility
features currently not included in the design of our public schools;
and
WHEREAS, it is important that the existing structural, mechanical
and electrical elements be restored to new conditions to sustain the
school buildings for the next 20 to 40 years; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to upgrade and reconfigure existing
interior space of the schools to serve current and future functional
needs and upgrade their general appearance; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary to upgrade and replace various
technology including computer, telephone media and classroom
equipment; and
WHEREAS, it is important to provide a healthy and functional
learning environment for our children; and
WHEREAS, the cost of this renovation, remodeling and technology
improvements is estimated to cost $36,900,000; and
WHEREAS, the Richfield School Board has authorized a referendum
to be placed before Richfield voters asking the question of whether
funds shall be borrowed to make these improvements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council of
the City of Richfield as follows:
1. That the Mayor and City Council of the City of Richfield do
hereby enthusiastically support the need for improvements as described
by the Richfield School Board.
2. The Richfield voters are encouraged to vote in support of the
school bond referendum.
