RESOLUTION APPROVING THE CITY OF RICHFIELD AS A SIGNATORY ON THE
MINNESOTA LOCAL GOVERNMENT COALITION LETTER IN RESPONSE TO XCEL
ENERGY'S INTEGRATED RESOURCE PLAN (IRP)
WHEREAS, Xcel Energy submitted their initial IRP proposal to the Public Utilities
Commission on July 1st, 2019, and a supplemental plan on June 30th 2020; and
WHEREAS, the IRP process works to set a public utility's long-term resource
development vision through planning for and reducing energy demand, addressing
generation sources, and improving energy efficiency; and
WHEREAS, these objectives are important to cities like Richfield as they are
intertwined with municipal sustainability and energy goals, and Xcel Energy's efforts
greatly impact what cities are able to achieve on a local level; and
WHEREAS, the IRP process allows for interested stakeholders to comment on
the proposal before given deadlines; and
WHEREAS, on January 28th, 2021, the Sustainability Commission approved a
motion supporting the Minnesota Local Government Coalition letter and recommending
to City Council that the City of Richfield sign on to the final version;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Richfield, Minnesota, that it approves the City of Richfield as a signatory on the
Minnesota local government coalition letter.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Richfield, Minnesota this 9th Day of
February, 2021.
