This summary of the ordinance is published pursuant to Section 3.12 of the Richfield City Charter. The purpose of this ordinance is to protect the health of the City's stormwater infrastructure and wa- terways by prohibiting the illegal discharges of certain substances and pollutants into the stormwater system. This ordinance amend- ment adds "chloride -based deic- ers. including but not limited to so- dium chloride (NaCp. magnesium chloride (MgQ12). and calcium chlo- ride QC12)" to the list of pollutants which are prohibited from being discharged into the stormwater system. Expanding the definition of pollutants to include deicing chem- icals will allow the City to better en- force unauthorized salt storage or excessive salt use. Noncompliance with enforcement actions can result in discontinued access to the Mu- nicipal Separate Storm Sewer Sys- tem (MS4) but is exceedingly rare. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is directed to keep a copy of the Ordinance in her office at City Hall for public inspec- tion during normal business hours and to post a full copy of the Ordi- nance in a public place in the City for a period of two weeks.
