01-28 Resolution No. 11710 RESOLUTION NO. 11710 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RICHFIELD COUNTS 2020 CENSUS EFFORTS WHEREAS, the U.S. Census Bureau is required by the U.S. Constitution to conduct a count of the population to help shape the foundation of our society and play an active role in American democracy; and WHEREAS, the demographics of the City of Richfield continue to grow and shift, including individuals who are from 'hard to count' communities and identify as multiracial, ethnic minority, highly mobile, person with disabilities; and WHEREAS, the City of Richfield is committed to ensuring that every resident is counted in the 2020 decennial census and avoiding the undercount of the estimated 7,323 residents who could be missed; and WHEREAS, billions of dollars per year in federal and state funding are allocated to communities, and decisions are made on matters of national and local importance based on census data, including; healthcare, community development, housing, education, transportation, social services, employment and much more; and WHEREAS, census data determines how many seats each state will have and our State is at risk at losing the a Congressional District which represents Minnesota in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as the redistricting of state, county and city, and voting districts; NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARIA REGAN GONZALEZ, Mayor of the City of Richfield, on behalf of the Richfield City Council, let it be resolved that: 1. The City of Richfield seeks the financial support in the amount of $ 21,900 from Hennepin County to ensure that all residents are counted in the 2020 Census, especially 'hard to count' communities. 2. The City of Richfield seeks support from our county, state and federal representatives to coordinate outreach and mobilize communities. 3. The City of Richfield seeks to serve as coordinating entity that will support the efforts of the U.S. Census Bureau to ensure a complete and accurate reporting.
