Monthly Meeting Minutes
August 9, 2018

1. Call to Order and Attendance
Chair Westergaard called the meeting to order at 6:36

4. Open Public Comment
Judy Nelson Moe and her daughter Raven spoke about accessibility issues in Richfield that they
have encountered (ie, curb cutouts at major intersections – 63rd and Nicollet, bushes blocking
intersections, etc. ). RHRC asked that Raven and Judy put together a list of Richfield accessibility
issues that the RHRC could assist them with.
5. Welcome New Commissioner Katherine Goodemote
6. Reports
a. Chair’s report
1. Jeff Wright has resigned from the RHRC.
2. Human Trafficking event has been cancelled.
3. Discussed RHRC reading children’s human right stories at Augsburg Library as a possible
community event.
4. Chair discussed that RHRC has an annual budget of $500 of which about 20% is used for the
Outstanding Citizen award. The amount available to the RHRC is more than previously
thought.

7. New Business
a. Census involvement by the RHRC - RHRC encourages all interested commissioners to become
involved in this project but has decided to decline becoming the lead organization on this
project. Mark will inform the City of Richfield .
8. Unfinished Business
a. HRC Flier/Brochure Team - Commissioners approved proposed RHRC brochure as presented by
Brett. Thanks to the team for updating this important document.
b. Penn Fest Planning - Brett reports that planning has continued for Penn Fest and asks that
commissioners be available to staff the RHRC table. RHRC approved printing costs for the
revised RHRC informational brochure.
c. Islam 101 – On hold for now.
d. Bylaws Committee - Suggested changes will be discussed at the September meeting
e. 2019 Speaker ideas – Ben discussed process of moving forward with speaker series.
f. Naturalization Ceremony at Holy Angels – Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19,
2019
