1. Meeting called to order by Vice-chair Debbie Eng at 6:31PM.
2. Approval of Agenda
a.) Todd moved; Katie seconded; unanimously approved
3. Approval of Minutes (from April)
i. Mike moved; Jeff seconded; unanimously approved after correction to add Katie
Eagle to absent list
4. Reports
a.) Chair’s report: In Mark’s absence, Debbie gave the chair’s report. She informed
the commission that Elizabeth Wendt has resigned. She also introduced two new
members, Shrestha Swopnil and Kirsten Kosinski. Debbie reported that the RHRC
has been added to the Restore the Vote coalition. We passed a resolution to support
this reform at the April meeting.
b.) Treasurer’s report: Jeff noted that there is $134.02 in our account.
5. Unfinished Business
a.) Community Conversation update: The final draft report for the community
conversation event will be complete by the time of the June city council meeting.
b.) Gene and Mary Jacobsen Outstanding Citizen Award: The commission chose
Russ King as the award winner this year. Russ, also known as Miss Richfield 1981,
has been very active in a number of charities that benefit those living with HIV/Aids
and other human rights issues. A reception will be held in Russ’s honor preceding
the June 9 city council meeting
c.) Landlord tenant workshop: Discussion about this upcoming event was put off
until the June RHRC meeting
d.) Human trafficking forum: Sara reported that the subcommittee met and they are
now trying to get the word spread about the event. Sara presented about the forum
at the last city council meeting.
6. New Business:
a.) 4th of July Celebration: The commission decided that we will participate in the
parade again this year and will hopefully include the Gene and Mary Jacobsen Out-
standing Citizen award winner, if he is available. We will also distribute some of our
RHRC flyers at the event.
7. Next meeting: June 2, 2015, 6:30PM
