HRC Activity

Todd Chase will be contacting MIRA the week of May 9 and will provide us with an update at the June meeting.
Philip Lowe reported in on VEAP and Section 8 office:
Section 8 - indicated they receive approximately 3 calls per day for information about affordable housing. They are
currently working on trying to clear their waiting list from 2009. Their waiting list is currently closed out to 2014.
They also indicated they are aware of a group in Richfield (Richfield Community Council) that is meeting and
discussing options to the affordable housing issues.
VEAP – Between Bloomington, Edina, and Richfield, they show Richfield as having the highest amount of poverty
per capita.
Molly Darsow gave an update on the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Kick off meeting. The steering committee has been
created and the group is moving with identifying the specific areas in the community that they will reach out to for
support.

Financial Report
We currently have approximately $11.00 in our checking account. Todd Sandell will follow up with city manager as
to whether or not there are any issues with maintaining the account and what options we have available to raise
funds considering there isn’t any funds available in the city’s budget.

We decided to table the appointment of a liaison to League of MN Human Rights Commission until the time we
hold elections for the Richfield Human Rights Commission in June of 2011.

ITEM #5 OLD BUSINESS:
Book Club: Everyone was ok with the flyer for the June book club event. We will proceed with posting these
around Richfield.
Domestic Partner Registry: the City administrator reports that only one couple has registered, but some of our
commission members have received feedback that there will be more registering.
Cinco de mayo: We will have an information table at this event. The members will meet in the parking lot at the
ice arena to carpool to Veterans park as there is only one parking pass given to each group.

Meeting:
Voted on the Citizen of the Year Award. We received 3 nominations and the winner was Diane Ahlquist. Molly
Darsow will contact her to let her know she won.
