Open forum closed Vote/ Unanimous ITEM #4 APPROVAL of MINUTES Minutes Approved ITEM #5 OLD BUSINESS/REPORTS Happenings: City Council – School – City – No Reports RICHFIELD HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION Meeting Minutes for May 4, 2010 ITEM #6 NEW BUSINESS: Phil Duran (Out Front Minnesota) presented information about Domestic Partner Registrations. Phillip Lowe, a Richfield resident, introduced him and shared his story about registering for Domestic Partnership in Minneapolis. He is co-founder of Citizens for LGBT Equality. Mr. Duran spoke for 30 minutes and explained how other cities are accepting Domestic Partnerships. Edina and Moorehead are moving toward approving an ordinance, though both city councils have not voted yet. Duluth and Minneapolis already passed ordinances. Mr. Duran has offered to meet with the city council at a special education meeting, open to the public, to explain Domestic Partnership ordinances. Molly Darsow will contact the Richfield city Attorney and HR Director to gather additional information about presenting a Domestic Partnership ordinance proposal to the city council. Todd Sandell invited commission members to attend the Richfield Cinco De Mayo celebration on May 5. Molly Darsow discussed applying for a Human Rights grant. Willard Stevens is the recipient of this years Gene and Mary Jacobsen Outstanding Citizen Award. He will be presented with the award on June 22 at the City Hall.
