E X E C UT IV E S UM M ARY: The City Special Election was conducted on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. The City Special Election was a contest for the office of Council Member Ward 3. The Richfield City Charter states that the Council must meet and canvass the election returns at the next regular or special Council meeting immediately following any regular, primary, or special election but in no event later than the time prescribed by state law, and must make full declaration of the results as soon as possible, and file a statement thereof with the City Clerk. RE C O M M E ND E D AC T I O N: By motion: Adopt a resolution determining the results of the City Special Election held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. Minnesota Statutes Chapter 205 governs the conduct of municipal elections. C.C R IT IC AL T IMIN G IS S U E S: I n accordance with State law and the City Charter, the City Council must take action no later than February 22, 2019. RESOLUTION DETERMINING RESULTS OF THE CITY SPECIAL ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2019 BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Richfield that the Council, having received and considered the tally of votes by the election judges of the Special Election held February 12, 2019, the results are determined to be as follows: Votes cast for City Council Member Ward Three: To fill vacancy in term expiring January 4, 2021. Benjamin Sunderlin 50 votes Judy Moe 112 votes Ben Whalen 264 votes WRITE-IN** 2 votes Total number of voters in this election: 429 voters Attached Attachment A is complete tabula tion of results.
